My name is Emilie Baxter. I attend San Marin High School and participate in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program. There are about 45 students in STEM. Together, we have two science classes and one math class freshman to sophomore year. Junior and senior year we only have one science class together plus a science class of our choice. During our senior year, we will be working on individual Senior projects that must benefit the community in some way. On this website, I will log any cool projects or labs we do in STEM. Not to mention, I will add any interesting programs I do outside of school. My goal with this website is to catch people's attention and illustrate how science--from physics to chemistry to biology--can be fascinating and engaging.
A little bit more about myself: I am currently a senior at San Marin, and I play volleyball and basketball. Sports and school have always been a substantial portion of my life. I've pretty much perfected my time management skills. No second is ever wasted. On top of that, I enjoy participating in different community outreach programs. This was the inspiration behind the Giving Tree Club. I started this club as a way to connect the students at San Marin to kids who face life-threatening challenges. Some of my other interests include reading, hiking, running, and traveling. Academics are a huge part of my life, so I participate in many clubs at the school like CSF, Book Club, Restorative Justice, and Speech and Debate Club. Also, I play the euphonium and trumpet in the school's concert band. Lastly, I enjoy big family gatherings. Thanksgiving and Christmas at the Baxter's house is always filled with a bunch of family. Our family comes from all over: North Carolina, New Jersey, Georgia, Massachusetts, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and several more places in the U.S.
I'm sure you're wondering why I chose the picture above for my website. There are two main reasons why:
1) Everything great must start with the little things. Looking for the details hidden in the grass, looking at the things most people don't notice is where the best ideas are formed.
2) We all must strive to do great, whether it's in the classroom or in the real world. We all have the potential to make change for the good of others. However, only those who dream big can make a difference.
With this website, I hope to share my love of science, learning, and life.
