First year at STEM at San Marin is starting out great! Group 1 builds a paper tower in 10 minutes with 10 pieces of paper. We collaborated well together and set up systems of folding, cutting, and stabilizing. In a triangular fold, never let the 2 papers stacked on top of each other line up. In this situation, opposites attract. Day 2 is another engineering challenge: build longest bridge with 2 chairs and 10 pieces of paper. We definitely learned to test your prototype as part of the Engineering Design Cycle. Our main problem was a weak connection, which is ironically the main problems in building bridges, homes, and other structures. Overall it was a great 2 days.

Freshman year was a success. Volleyball and basketball season were a blast, and I had the chance to experiment with many projects in physics. This summer I will keep playing my sports and taking an internship at EarthScope, an environment media company. My brother Nick is done with his high school career and going to the University of Oregon in the fall. It was great to have a year with him at San Marin, and to watch him graduate. Can't wait to see what sophomore year will bring.
